Laura In The Community

  • Education

Laura began her education by attending Harrod Day School in District 6. The school, founded by Park Cities Baptist, educated many children in District 6.

For high school Laura attended Tyler Street Academy and Gospel Lighthouse Academy. She went on to earn a bachelor of arts degree from Baylor University and was in the fourth class of Baylor’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary where she earned a master of divinity degree. She currently serves on the Board of Advocates for Baylor’s School of Social Work.

  • Co-Chair of Bridge-O-Rama

Laura served as Co-Chair of Bridge-O-Rama, a community celebration of the opening of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. As a part of the celebration Laura worked with local organizations and artists to build giant puppets for a Parade of Giants that honored 15 people who had an impact in District 6.

  • Running in District 6

When a local marathon changed its route to go through District 6, Laura signed up to run the first of several half marathons.

  • Mentoring

Laura enjoys mentoring students in her community. As the first in her family to go away to college, she believes it is important to encourage youth.

  • Advocacy

Laura started attending council meetings with her aunt Debbie Solis and District 6 community members.

  • Volunteering

Laura has a long history of volunteering in the community. The photo above is when she served as a volunteer for the Trinity River Revel. Thirty top artists from the Dallas area transformed a wooden door into creative portals reflecting the theme ‘Our Past, Present and Future’. Proceeds raised were donated to local nonprofits.
